Reformulated Clear versus 'soft' Clear - an explanation...
The "Reformulated Clear" has the same clarity properties of
the clear as in the past, but has been reformulated have almost no green
tinge to the glass.
The "Soft Clear" has the clarity properties that you have come
to expect with the Lauscha - but 'softer' working qualities. This glass
has also been reformulated to be free of any green tinge.
Annealing temperatures still remain the same for both (980 degrees).
New shipment of glass from Germany is here - A ship from Germany arrived
in Houston on the 23rd, and I will pick the glass up tomorrow. In addition
to the standard, or "old" formulation of the Lauscha clear, I will be
getting some of the "new" or softer clear that some customers have requested.
Also included in the shipment will be some red opaque and a lighter version
of the long out of stock buckhorn.
Old versus New versions of clear - The old formulation clear has always
been higher melting and stiffer than Moretti, and requires a higher temperature
in the kiln (around 986F), than the 950F generally used to anneal Moretti.
Also, best results were obtained by putting the bead into the kiln when
it was firm, but still glowing red. Allowing the bead to cool until it
loses the red glow appears to allow stresses to build up in the bead that
may not get relieved, especially if the temperature in the kiln is too
low. I am told that the new, soft, formulation clear melts at a lower
temperature, and is much more fluid, and firms up more quickly. I've asked
the factory for more information on the performance and conditions for
this new formulation and will include them here when I have a reply.
In the meantime I would appreciate word of any experience you might have
with it. best,
Glassdaddy

What's New August 15, 2007 Greetings from Austin! Most,
but not all, of the boxes from our move are now unpacked, and just about all of
the glass made the trip safely. I hope that you have had a good summer and that
I can resume being your supplier for Lauscha glass. The last few days
here have been almost hot enough to melt glass without
a torch (!!!), but better days are ahead. best, Glassdaddy Frank
What’s New Update June 23, 2007 Greetings from Texas! We finally
arrived in Houston a few days ago after a 2000 mile trip down from New Jersey,
and have almost finished unpacking the van. Included in what we brought with us
is enough glass to cover any orders until the rest of our household shipment (and
glass) arrives at the end of July. Sorry for the one month interruption,
but if you need Lauscha glass, Glassdaddy is again ready to supply it. You can
enter an order via the website, call at 973 207-3438, or email to f.derosa@hotmail.com
. These are temporary measures until we are settled in our new home in Austin.
